Mr. Nicola Samuel Surah is a researcher specializing in Business and Human Rights with experience in Human Rights Due
Diligence (HRDD), Human Rights Impact Assessments (HRIA), and Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) verification
across several regions of Indonesia. At the Foundation for International Human Rights Reporting Standards (FIHRRST),
he has conducted field-based research in sectors such as seafood and fisheries supply chains, extractives, logging and
carbon projects, and development initiatives, contributing to studies across Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Maluku, and
Papua. His work includes facilitating stakeholder consultations, developing research instruments, delivering training,
and producing analyses on labour rights, regulatory compliance, and community engagement. He also collaborates with
international and national partners, including the International Labour Organization (ILO), government agencies, and
civil society organizations on human rights and labour rights training, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in International
Relations from Universitas Gadjah Mada’s International Undergraduate Program.
