
[Jakarta, November 29th, 2023] – The International NGO Forum on Indonesian Development (Infid), in collaboration with Oxfam, hosted an insightful training session on Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) at the Oria Hotel in Jakarta. FIHRRST was honored to be invited as a key trainer, contributing to the deepening of understanding regarding human rights in the business context.

The event featured distinguished speakers, including Ms. Tequila Bester, Program Coordinator on Law and Social Issues at FIHRRST; Mr. Ibrahim Reza from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (MoLHR); and Mr. Jacob Bogart from the Remedy Project. Attendees represented a wide range of civil society organizations (CSOs) focused on addressing potential human rights violations in business operations.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Abdul Waidl, Infid’s Program Manager on Human Rights and Democracy, emphasized the importance of the session in fostering greater collaboration among CSOs to advance human rights in the business sector.
First Session
Led by Mr. Reza, provided valuable insights into Indonesia’s regulatory framework and the Strategi Nasional (Stranas) Bisnis dan HAM, underscoring the necessity for businesses to enhance their commitment to human rights. He also introduced PRISMA, an independent toolset designed to assess a company's human rights performance.
Second Session
Delivered by Ms. Bester, focused on foundational human rights principles, differentiating Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) from human rights in business. The interactive component engaged participants, encouraging dialogue among stakeholders to strengthen their understanding of the intersection between business and human rights.

Mr. Bogart highlighted the government’s pivotal role in sustainable resource management and shared insights on the evolving responsibilities of businesses in human rights, culminating in the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights established in 2011.

A key takeaway from the training was the crucial role that CSOs play in ensuring accountability, providing technical assistance, and advocating for the implementation of HRDD. This training is hoped to serve as a bridge toward improved human rights practices within businesses, fostering a foundation for continued collaboration and progress in the field of HRDD.
