Launch of the Fifth Edition of the Global Slavery Index

Launch of the Fifth Edition of the Global Slavery Index
On June 6, 2023, FIHRRST's Business and Human Rights Team participated in an event to launch the fifth edition of the Global Slavery Index, produced by Walk Free.

Published in May of 2023, the Global Slavery Index (GSI), is the world's most comprehensive dataset on modern slavery and its implications for addressing the risk of slavery in Asian supply chains. The Index presents a detailed picture of modern slavery across various industries and countries today. It also describes the actions governments are taking to combat modern slavery and the risks that certain populations face around the world.

The GSI is a tool for citizens, civil society, businesses, and governments to understand the scale of the problem, existing responses, and contributing factors so that they can advocate for and build sound policies to address modern slavery.

The panel discussion at the launching event was attended by esteemed individuals such as Dr. Andrew Forrest, who serves as the Chairman of the Minderoo Foundation and Executive Chairman of Fortescue Metals Group, Dr. Seree Nonthasoot from the Stock Exchange of Thailand, Dr. Srikanya Yathip, Secretary General of the Thai Government Pension Fund, Sarah Arriola, the Regional Director for Asia Pacific at the International Organisation for Migration, and Prad Kerdpairoj, the Director of Sustainability for Asia at the Thai Union.

The event provided valuable insights and sparked fruitful discussions on addressing the risk of slavery in Asia's supply chains.
