Attended by Experts, FIHHRST held a Validation Workshop for the Guidance Toolkit on Decent Work, Skills Development, and Responsible Business Conduct

Jakarta, February 17, 2025 – The Foundation for International Human Rights Reporting Standards (FIHHRST), supported by the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) Resilient, Inclusive, and Sustainable Supply Chains (RISSC) program, held a Validation Workshop for the Guidance Toolkit on Decent Work, Skills Development, and Responsible Business Conduct. The event took place at the Hotel Ashley Wahid Hasyim, Central Jakarta, and brought together experts, government representatives, labor unions, and industry stakeholders to refine and enhance the toolkit.

The toolkit is designed to help small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the electronics sector conduct business more responsibly. By providing practical guidelines, SMEs can more easily adopt fair business practices, safeguard workers’ well-being, and enhance employee skills. The toolkit is tailored to be easily understood and seamlessly integrated into daily business activities.

The workshop featured in-depth discussions on the key components of the toolkit, including best practices for workplace safety, fair wages, and decent work. Experts from the electronics industry, government representatives, and labor rights organizations provided valuable insights on how SMEs can implement these guidelines effectively. Attendees also participated in interactive sessions aimed at identifying challenges and opportunities in aligning their business practices with responsible conduct principles.

The event gathered key stakeholders, including representatives from academia, labor unions, and government institutions such Asosiasi Pengusaha Indonesia (APINDO), and the Ministry of Manpower. Their participation underscores the collaborative effort needed to foster sustainable and ethical growth in the industry. Discussions emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration in achieving long-term improvements in working conditions and business sustainability.

According to Mr. Taufik Muhammad, ILO Program Coordinator for the RISSC Program, "The toolkit requires further follow-up; however, it is becoming increasingly comprehensive. It has been developed from various perspectives, including those of GRI, labor unions, government ministries, and business conduct." This statement highlights the collaborative approach taken in developing the toolkit to ensure it is inclusive and applicable to various aspects of responsible business conduct.

The workshop was a crucial step in refining the toolkit, ensuring it meets the needs of SMEs and aligns with global standards for responsible business conduct. With input from various stakeholders, the final version of the toolkit is hoped to be a valuable resource for Indonesian SMEs striving to create a more ethical and sustainable electronics sector.

Moving forward, FIHHRST, the ILO, and their partners will continue to provide support and capacity-building initiatives to ensure the effective adoption of the toolkit. Further training sessions and mentoring programs will be made available to SMEs, equipping them with the necessary knowledge and tools to navigate the complexities of responsible business conduct.
